PICTURE AND PROSE BOOKCLUB

May 22, 2017 @ 11:00AM — 12:30PM Eastern Time (US & Canada)

Come share your love for visual art and literature at the KMA’s new reading group! Awaken you mind and eye at this unique, community gathering where each book is chosen by an area luminary to align with the themes of the KMA’s current exhibition. Our coffee klatsch begins with a curator-led tour; continues with lively, no-holds barred discussion; and ends with a swarm of new ideas and friends. Join in on this merging of cultural disciplines, breaking down boundaries between art and your everyday life. Light refreshments will be served. Our inaugural reading group will be led by English educator, community leader, and KMA favorite Barbara Jackson. Barbara has been a guiding force at Neighbors Link where she currently serves as the Chair of the Neighbors Link National Network. She will bring her humanity, humor and perception to our discussion. For our first pairing, Barbara has selected Marriage of Opposites by Alice Hoffman to coincide with the KMA’s spring exhibition, Picturing Love: Photography’s Pursuit of Intimacy. Based on historical fact, it is a complex study of three generations of family and focuses on Rachel Pissarro, the mother of Camille Pissarro, often called the Father of Impressionism. The combination of intimate bonds and artistic life makes this the perfect, revealing story for our new discussion series, Picture and Prose.
